Antigone's Hair-Sword

Inspired by the Greek tragedy Antigone, written by Sophocles. The play tells the story of Antigone,  daughter of Oedipus, who defies political authority in order to follow what she believed to be sacred law.

In a very brief synopsis... After a civil war, King Creon forbids the burial of Antigone’s brother Polynices, declaring him a traitor. Antigone chooses to bury him anyway, believing that divine obligation and spiritual duty outweigh obedience to the state.

She openly accepts responsibility for her actions and refuses to deny her decision, even when faced with death. Creon orders her entombed alive for disobeying his decree. Although he later attempts to reverse the punishment, Antigone dies before she can be saved.

She left the plane of Earth as a symbol of resistance.

A walk through the art:

This design is inspired by Antigone but all of the elements are not her direct symbols. Rather, they play off the vibe of her energy and the personality of her character.

At the crest a triple moon sigil rests on a pair of outstretched seer's hand.

At the center of the sigil is the symbol for Omega.

In the Greek alphabet the O falls at the end and symbolized the final limit. Within certain spiritualities the Omega symbolizes the fulfillment of all things through God. In science it represents a unit of electrical resistance called the ohm.

Each crescent also gives you a subtle and respectful nod to another known symbol of resistance. Visually look at the moon and turn it at a 90° angle so the points are facing up. When you see it... you'll see it!

Seer's hand are a symbol for anyone who possesses psychic abilities, high intuition, magic, or the second sight.

On the crest is a hand-fan positioned above a set of flames licking down the blade. The fan symbolizes the proverbial "fueling the flames and fire" as it often a nice gust of oxygen to get those flames burning white.

Materials: Steel and zinc alloy, nickel and lead-free

Dimensions: Approx. 6.5 inches long

Uses: while it is designed to be a hair-stick, hair-sword, or hair-dagger, it can also be used as an athame, altar decor, letter opener, bookmark, decor for a potted plant, a prop for an art doll, or tucked into a belt, thigh garter, or hat band. I'm sure there are even more ways to slay.
