La Strega Evil Eye Pendant
Inspired by the rich traditions of Stregoneria, or Italian witchcraft.
A story about the inspiration:
The first two years I began this business I also worked a full time job cooking in a memory care facility. A memory care facility is a specialized end of life home for humans who have had the unfair misfortune of becoming afflicted with dementia or Alzheimer's disease.
I cooked for the residents and part of my responsibilities was to also serve them their meals. One of the residents was a very tiny lady that was originally from Italy. She wore a" bracelet made from large, round, glass evil eye beads. About once a week she would take it off, slide it on my wrist, then in a very thick Italian accent very aggressively say to me "EVIL EYES TO PROTECT YOU". I would thank her and accept it and later find a director who would return it to the resident's bedside table only for the same scenario to repeat again a few days later.
This piece is in honor of her. I hope her spirit is resting well.
A walk through the art:
Rooted in the natural cycles of life and deeply influenced by folklore, Italian witchcraft celebrates the feminine divine and the wisdom of ancestral traditions. This pendant pays homage to these practices, featuring the triple moon symbol, a powerful emblem representing the three stages of womanhood: Maiden, Mother, and Crone. Together, these phases embody creation, nurturing, and wisdom, reflecting the cyclical nature of life and the strength in embracing all its facets.
At the center of the triple moon is an inlaid evil eye stone, a talisman of protection that deflects negativity and harmful intentions. For centuries, the evil eye has been revered as a symbol of safety and vigilance, guarding its wearer from unwanted influences and ill-wishing.
The crescent moons are adorned with delicate lilies, symbols of purity, beauty, and renewal in Italian culture. These flowers, celebrated in art and religious symbolism, add an air of elegance and deep cultural resonance to the design.
Materials: steel and zinc. nickel and lead-free, glass evil eye
Size: Two and half (2.5) inches long and one (1) inch tall. Complimentary 18" chain included.
