Hel's Hair-Sword
Inspired by the Norse Goddess Hel. Goddess of the underworld.
A walk through the art:
The pommel features an icy heart, representing Hel's domain over the frozen depths and her role as a guide to the afterlife.
The handles are designed as spindles, reflecting Hel’s connection to the threads of fate. In Norse mythology, spindles symbolize the weaving of life’s tapestry, with Hel presiding over its final threads. The beveled icicles cascading from each spindle further connect the design to her frosty dominion.
On the hilt is the figure of Hel, the guardian of the dead and ruler of the icy realm of Niflheim,. She is often depicted as both goddess and skeleton, a dual nature that symbolizes the inevitable transition from life to death.
Adorning the blade is a spiral motif, a powerful symbol of cycles and transformation. The spiral embodies the eternal journey of life, death, and rebirth, capturing the essence of Hel’s realm.
Etched under the spiral is Hel’s rune, a sacred mark representing her unique power and the threshold between opposites.
Materials: Steel and zinc. Nickel and lead-free
Size: 6.5 inches long
Uses: while it is designed to be a hair-stick, hair-sword, or hair-dagger, it can also be used as an athame, altar decor, letter opener, bookmark, decor for a potted plant, a prop for an art doll, or tucked into a belt, thigh garter, or hat band. I'm sure there are even more ways to slay.
